Happy Holidays and Happy New Year to you all! Historically most seeds are harvested in October, after which we clean, count, and pack for the season! Sales typically start in December or January! Ethan has been packing seeds, and we’ll have at least some 2023 harvest to offer starting January!

Locally, we are again planning to hold two or three garden sales during 2024 where you’ll be able to browse a wide range of hostas, daylilies, and other northern hardy perennials, along with a few houseplants I always take the time to bring out as well! June, July, and August, dates are TBD at this time!

A 2023 Harvest Recap

Hosta seeds were harvested throughout October. Extreme drought plagued us for a third summer in a row, and production was again lower than historical numbers. For example, a few years back, Chirifu Oba produced 6 scapes. In 2021, it was 5, but in 2022, we only had 2 scapes. In 2023, Chirifu Oba was down to just 1 scape – I think I need to dig up the plant and transplant it to a more favorable location given the impact that dry weather is having!
